Lisa Lujan - Web Developer and CFO
Lisa Lujan - Web Developer and CFO
This week we have our final spotlight on board members, Lisa Lujan.  Lisa is our web developer and CFO.

Name: Lisa Lujan
How long have you been a crafter?
10 years (I think.  I really can’t remember.)
How did you get started?
I wanted to organized some vacation photos so started with a vacation scrapbook going back to my childhood.
What was your first project?
 Vacation Scrapbook
What is your favorite type of projects now? (Albums, cards, mixed media, art journals, coloring etc.)
I really love making cards and art journaling
Do you listen to music while you craft?
If so, which genre? Sometimes and depends on my mood.  I might listen to 60’s music to something classical.
What part of crafting is the most intimidating?
Getting started and journaling
Do you pre-plan your projects or do you get inspired as you go?
Sometimes, but usually when I’m done I wish I’d done something else.
Do you clean your craft table after every project?
I wish!  Something for me to strive toward.
Have you ever sold your projects? If so, where can we find your work?
No, but one of these days I’m going to get my act together and start an Etsy store for pendants I make.
If you were given the chance to pick 3 products in any craft store where money was no object, what 3 things would you choose?
I would probably be something to do with Art Journaling.  Something from Dyan Reaveley or Tim Holtz.  I would probably go for the expensive paints that I don’t allow myself to buy.
What do you do outside of crafting? Other hobbies/interests/accomplishments?
Right now I’m trying to learn everything I can about building websites and increasing traffic to our website and figuring out what exactly a CFO does.

FAVORITES:
Favorite Topic: (Vacations, Children/Baby, Disney, etc) Vacation
Favorite Adhesive: I’d be lost without my pink adhesive gun but I still need Brandy or Heidi to help me load it.
Favorite Craft Brand: That’s tough.  It really depends on the project.  If I’m art journaling I love Dyan Reaveley, Tim Holtz and Heidi Swap, but for card making or scrapbooking I love Close to My Heart.
Favorite Accessory: Glitter Spray!  It gives everything a little sparkle.
Favorite way to shop: (Online, In-store, Bazaars, Expos, etc.) In-store or expos.  I like to see what I’m getting because when I order online I’m always a little surprised at what arrives.
Favorite Craft Blogger:
I don’t have one but I’m excited to see what are spotlight craft bloggers are doing.

THIS OR THAT: (And tell us why if you have an interesting angle)
Keep scraps or toss scraps?
I probably keep too many. I have a problem throwing things away.
Buttons: Thread or No thread?
NO THREAD!  Who has time to try to put it through those small holes.
Decorative scissors or edge punches?
My first scrapbook I used decorative scissors on every picture but now I’m likely to use edge punches.

Our next newsletter will have a special announcement and then later this month we’ll begin our spotlight on craft bloggers.  We are excited to get their views on our little questionnaire plus see what we can learn from their blogs.

As the web developer I'd love to hear what you'd like to see us add to our website.

Brandy Yearous - Vendor Relations and Event Coordinator
Brandy Yearous - Vendor Relations and Event Coordinator

This week our blog spotlight is on Brandy Yearous our vendor relations and event coordinator.
She’s been busy the last couple of weeks contacting vendors.  We’ll soon be announcing one of our Platinum Sponsors.
Name: Brandy Yearous
Blog/Website: http://thesupermomworkout.com/

How long have you been a crafter? 15 years
How did you get started? My sister in law bought me a scrapbooking kit at my baby shower, she even finished the first few pages for me and had everyone sign a decorated page. It came with all the fancy cut scissors, stencils, markers and stickers!
What was your first project? I made 12X12 pages for my son’s baby book because that was the supplies I had to start with.
What is your favorite type of projects now? (Albums, cards, mixed media, art journals, coloring etc.) I still love 12X12 albums but I really enjoy the instant gratification of sending someone a card and being able to share my work. I’ve also tried art journals and mixed media, but don’t quite know what to do with the finished products.
Do you listen to music while you craft? If so, which genre? Yes, pop or top 40
What part of crafting is the most intimidating? Making sure I have all the coordinating pieces! I love to be matchy matchy…there is nothing I hate more than finishing a spread and realizing I had a whole sheet of embellishments that went with it that I forgot about.
Do you pre-plan your projects or do you get inspired as you go? I love to pre-plan. I want to coordinate my pages and plan on how to use the scraps too! I also LOVE my Cricut, so I like to cut some pretty elaborate titles and such…that takes some time and planning.
Do you clean your craft table after every project? Since I am a planner, I can’t work in chaos…I have to clean up, put things away and love to have a fresh start.
Have you ever sold your projects? If so, where can we find your work? I have not sold my work.  I enjoy creating to document my family experiences.
If you were given the chance to pick 3 products in any craft store where money was no object, what 3 things would you choose? WOW, I wrote this question…what was I thinking?
What do you do outside of crafting? Other hobbies/interests/accomplishments? I am a full time baseball and dance mom. I also created the Super Mom Workout app, using my background in Sport Medicine and Physical Therapy I have become a Fitness and Lifestyle Expert for major media outlets such as the TODAY Show.

FAVORITES:
Favorite Topic: (Vacations, Children/Baby, Disney, etc) I love to scrapbook vacations!
Favorite Adhesive: ATG Pink Tape Gun
Favorite Craft Brand: Sheesh who wrote these, too hard! oh wait that was me again… I’ll start with Project Life and I’ve jumped on the craft planner bandwagon and need EVERYTHING!
Favorite Accessory: 3-D embellishments, I love glossy accents, epoxy, buttons, flowers...anything that pops!
Favorite way to shop: (Online, In-store, Bazaars, Expos, etc.) I know more is available online, but I still like to go to the store and see and feel what things look like. I’m a visual learner.
Favorite Craft Blogger: I follow A LOT of craft bloggers! (hit me up at idahoscrapbookshow@gmail.com if you want me/us to follow your craft blog!) My personal favorite is Robyn at http://www.mypinkstamper.com/and Joy at http://www.obsessedwithscrapbooking.com/

THIS OR THAT: (And tell us why if you have an interesting angle)
Keep scraps or toss scraps? Keep and SORT scraps!
Buttons: Thread or No thread? No thread, I don’t have patience to feed those tiny holes.
October is almost upon us.  Please stay tuned as we have some exciting things happening.

How long have you been a crafter?
Always had enjoyment in making stuff, does elementary school count?  Scrapbooking for 19 years.

How did you get started?
My mom would show me how to make "stuff" when I was little.  Attended my first creative memories party
in October of 1997 and was HOOKED!

What was your first project?
Anything that I could a hot glue gun.  My first double sided scrapbook page was 12x12 at the CM party.
I used scallop scissors around everyone's head!

What is your favorite type of project now?(Albums, cards, mixed media, art journals, coloring etc.)
I LOVE stamping cards, scrapbooking my children and coloring with anything, even acrylic paint!

Do you listen to music while you craft?  If so, which genre?
YES!  Anything, but prefer contemporary Christian

What part of crafting is the most intimidating?
Getting started, hoping it turns out how I want.

Do you pre-plan your projects or do you get inspired as you go?
As I go, I do it.  Not a lot of planning out unless I'm copying someone else!

Do you clean your craft table after every project?
Yes I haven't got my "area" set up yet.  I used to leave projects when I had a desk.

Have you ever sold your projects?  If so, where can we find your work?
Yes, in the past, but only at craft fairs or bazaars, not currently.

If you were given the change to pick 3 products in any craft store where money was no object,
what 3 things would you choose?

Would an unlimited gift card for Hobby Lobby count?  Most likely a circuit or cutting system of some type,
and two cartridges to go with it.  If I could ONLY have 3 things.

What do you do outside of crafting? Other hobbies/interests/accomplishments?
Raise children, very involved in Cub/Boy Scouts with my boys, led brownie troop with my daughter,
tend my home, co-lead a Bible study fellowship children's class, travel with my family, substitute teach elementary age (so far), bake, decorate cakes/cupcakes/cookies and blog (sometimes only once a year).

Favorites
Favorite Topic (Vacations, Children/Baby, Disney, etc)

Anything I can put a sticker next and write about.  EVERYDAY occasions!
Favorite Adhesive: the kind that sticks... and rolls easily that doesn't get gummed up. LOVER of glue dots.
Favorite Craft Brand: I'm drawn to Heidi Swapp stuff, project like but I love anything acid free.
Favorite Accessory: Stickers or brads that stick, embellish any and everything!
Favorite way to shop: (online, in-store, bazaars, expos, etc.)  In stores, expos and bazaars...online takes too long

This and That: ( And tell us why if you have an interesting angle)
Keep scraps or toss scraps?
Keep everything, it's useful!  Purge yearly.
Buttons: Thread or No thread?  I don't put thread on mind, I use glue dots.
Decorative scissors or edge punches?  Scissors but I like and use punches for shapes.

We have the result of our first survey.  It appears that the majority of our followers are scrapbookers, and second was card making.  We'd love to hear your opinion on the next survey.

Heather Carter - President and Event Coordinator

Heather Carter President and Event Coordinator
Heather Carter President and Event Coordinator
Our first blog was an introduction to how the Idaho Craft Association was formed and who is on the ICA board.  This week we’ll focus a little more information about one of our board members, Heather Carter, President and Event Coordinator.

How long have you been a crafter?
I have been crafting since 1999.

How did you get started?
A friend who was a DOTS demonstrator (now Close to My Heart) had a party and I fell in love with stamping.

What was your first project?
That was a long time ago! Probably a card made with stamps and ink.

What is your favorite type of projects now?
(Albums, cards, mixed media, art journals, coloring etc.) I love color, so I have really gotten into mixed media and art journaling, and now that my husband and I are starting to hike and I am taking lots of pictures, I am doing more scrapbooking.

Do you listen to music while you craft?  If so, which genre?
No music – I love to close my craft room door and relish in the solitude

What part of crafting is the most intimidating?
The part where I put it on display and share it with others!

Do you pre-plan your projects or do you get inspired as you go?
I usually start out with one idea and then usually end up with something completely different.

Do you clean your craft table after every project?
Not always – I have pushed my last project aside so I have a small area to start the new one – and then end up stopping to clean up in the middle of the current project.

Have you ever sold your projects? If so, where can we find your work?
No, only given projects as gifts.

If you were given the chance to pick 3 products in any craft store where money was no object, what 3 things would you choose? A new Cricut,  a full set of Copic markers, and a new color book

What do you do outside of crafting?  Other hobbies/interests/accomplishments?
In additional to paper crafting, I also knit and weave (I have a Gilmore floor loom). My husband and I are empty nesters, so we have started hiking and walking/running 5k’s together to stay busy.

Keep scraps or toss scraps?
Keep and never use! I have loads of scraps and even have them divided by color, but never seem to reach for them.

Buttons: Thread or No thread? No thread – I like glue dots

Decorative scissors or edge punches?
I have a large collection of both (cause you have to have them all!) but I would have to say I live edge punches better.

FAVORITES:
Favorite Topic: (Vacations, Children/Baby, Disney, etc) Vacations are my favorite to scrapbook
Favorite Adhesive: I am cheap! I buy the Elmer's tape runner you can get at Wal-Mart.
Favorite Craft Brand: Right now I am really into Project Life. I tend to scrapbook symmetrically, so it fits right into my style.
Favorite Accessory: I love ephemera and use it for cards and scrapbooking
Favorite way to shop: (Online, In-store, Bazaars, Expos, etc.) We don’t have many specialty scrapbook stores, so I like the variety of on-line. And it’s fun to get packages delivered!
Favorite Craft Blogger: There are so many out there, its fun to see everyone’s style and creativity

Now we'd like to hear from you.

Who we are

Do you love to get together with your friends to scrapbook? Do you want to see the latest paper crafting products and techniques? So do we! We love them so much we formed the Idaho Craft Association (ICA) to bring a national scrapbooking expo to the Idaho Treasure Valley. The idea developed during a drive back from a girl’s weekend at an expo out of state. Someone said, "Why couldn't we put on our own expo?"  No one could come up with a reason why we couldn't do it. So here we are. Now who are we?  We are five diversely talented women who share a joy of scrapbooking. A little about the part each of us will play in the Idaho Scrapbook Expo:
Heather Carter - President and Event Coordinator
Heather Carter - President and Event Coordinator
Heidi Deming – Community Outreach and Class Coordinator

Lisa Lujan – CFO, Web Developer and Registration
Maggie Shumaker – VIP and Crop Coordinator
Maggie Shumaker – VIP and Crop Coordinator
Brandy Yearous – Vendor Relations and Show Management

There’s still so much more each of us has to share so please stay tuned as we continue our blog.  We’ll expand on what brought each of us here, spotlight on craft bloggers, vendors, classes and have some fun along the way.
